Harvested in April, our Mao Jian is a spring harvested organic tea. Spring green teas are renowned for their sweetness and delicacy, it’s the first crop of the year after the bushes awake from winter dormancy. Only the youngest leaves and buds are selected and picked by hand.

Soon after plucking the leaves are laid out on bamboo trays to soften, before being pan heated - sealing the leaves to retain the deep green colour and to prevent any oxidation taking place. The leaves are then skilfully hand-rolled, which helps to develop the flavour, until such time that the fine twisted leaf style and shape has been achieved.

Mao Jian translates as Fur Peaks, referring to the fine tightly twisted leaves and youngest buds.

What sets Guzhang apart is its pristine natural environment. Surrounded by steep mountain slopes, dense forests, and flowing streams, the tea bushes grow slowly in the cool, humid climate — ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality organic tea.

The region’s most famous tea, Mao Jian, is a standout among Chinese green teas. Known for its slender, needle-like leaves and delicate aroma, it’s deliciously smooth, with a mellow flavour and lingering sweetness.
