Where does the Tea Come From?

Rwanda, Africa

ORIGIN: Assam, India. Rwanda, Africa.
VARIETAL: Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica
LEAF GRADE: Pekoe, GBOP

Rwanda may be a relatively new player in tea production, with estates established in the mid-20th century, but it has quickly gained global recognition for its exceptional quality. We proudly source from Rukeri Estate, choosing their Pekoe leaf grade for its fresh, vibrant flavour. It’s our go-to breakfast tea — bright, bold, and perfect with a splash of whole milk alongside toast or crumpets.

Rwanda’s unique terroir makes it a remarkable place for tea cultivation. High altitudes, rich volcanic soils, and a temperate climate combine with cool nights and warm days to develop teas with clean, complex flavour. The mountainous landscape and excellent drainage further enhance the quality of the leaves.

Rukeri is also one of the few estates in Africa to produce Orthodox tea, a traditional method that gently rolls the leaves, preserving their size and developing their character. This results in a more nuanced, flavourful brew compared to smaller-cut CTC teas. You can truly taste the difference in every cup.
