Khongea Tea Estate lies in the heart of Upper Assam, on the lush banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River — one of the largest and most powerful rivers in the world. This region is known for its fertile floodplains, where tea thrives in hot, humid conditions with abundant rainfall. The estate is ideally located for cultivating Camellia sinensis var. assamica, a fast-growing tea plant with broad leaves, perfectly suited to Assam’s subtropical climate.

Khongea’s teas are grown in nutrient-rich alluvial soil, resulting in robust, full-bodied brews with the signature malty character Assam is famous for. The estate is surrounded by dense forests and lies in a biodiverse region that is among the last wild habitats for the Asian elephant and the one-horned rhinoceros.

Our invoice has been harvested from bushes that are exclusively of the Panitola-126 (P-126) cultivar, a carefully selected clone prized for producing some of the finest Orthodox Assam black teas. These teas are known for their malty depth, rich body, and a high concentration of bright golden tips in the dry leaf, delivering a full-flavoured, premium cup that reflects the very essence of Assam.
